Safe-Snap is an innovative safety device designed to protect workers who are at risk of physical violence. The need for this product was established when research emerged that up to 14% of NHS workers had been physically assaulted within the last year.

Intended to provide workers with the simplest and most effective way to alert other people, the Safe-Snap features a snap-fastener (or ‘popper’) located near the top of the device. The user simply un-snaps (or ‘pops’) the fastener if they wish to send an emergency signal.

By integrating the fully-washable Safe-Snap into a worker’s uniform the device is conveniently on-hand to them at all times. Safe-Snap is also powered by a single coin-cell battery – offering an unprecedented standby life of up to 10 years.

Due to the low-cost nature of the technology, it is cost-effective for multiple devices to be bought for each worker (sewn into each individual uniform).

This approach ensures that a worker never forgets to bring their alarm with them to work; a common occurrence with other solutions which must be frequently recharged and/or taken off a lanyard or wristband.

Variations of the Safe-Snap can be produced on-demand in order to integrate with the stylings and aesthetics of different uniforms.

Here variations of ‘nursing scrubs’ have been matched with Safe-Snaps of similar colours and texture. This enhances the level of discretion while wearing the device, bringing less attention to any prospective usage.

How to use:
1) The worker un-snaps (or ‘pops’) the snap-fastener on the Safe-Snap device, 2) a nearby wireless receiver detects the signal sent by the Safe-Snap, 3) the receiver sends an alert to any nearby colleagues, and 4) security personnel in the building are notified.

A single wireless receiver can cover an area of more than 6 kilometres. This ensures worker safety well-outside of the premises. Additional receivers can also be daisy-chained in order to potentially create a ‘city-wide’ area of protection (ideal for lone workers, commuting workers, etc).
